AFS First Entry
Who Am I?
My name is Maribeth Ninas. I live in LaGrange Georgia and have a heart for traveling. Both of my parents have traveled all over because my dad was in the Navy. I want to go abroad with AFS because I believe that AFS can help me achieve my dream of being an international missionary.
What Do You Expect To Gain From This Trip?
I expect to gain from this trip a better understanding of Costa Rica, international travel, int. relations, and communications. I hope to help the people of Costa Rica know and understand the U.S. better than what they may see on TV. I would also like to share with them some about my own state.
Are You Excited?
My friends are terribly jealous that I am getting to go on such an adventure. One of my friends would like to go on an exchange program to, I intend to encourage her to use AFS when she does go. My parents are excited for me and keep coming up with ways to "prepare" me for my stay.
What Have You Done To Prepare for Your Trip?
I have worked for several years to improve my Spanish. My teacher says I have one of the best accents in the class. Another barrier I have overcome is that I use to be very shy and not at all self-confident. I have changed so much now, I am always introducing myself, and confident to go places by myself. I am very independent.
I plan to send letters to friends and family. I also plan to ask the people in my church to aid me in my fund raising.

I found out yesterday that I had received a scholarship through my program (AFS) worth $750! What a blessing! It will help, but I am still going to have to work hard to get there!
